Nigerian commercial banks’ absurd service fees have drawn criticism from well-known comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, better known by his stage as AY.
He questioned how, in the face of a faltering economy, Nigerian banks are able to announce quarterly profits of trillions of Naira. The actor emphasized that they must be contested, pointing out that some of the service fees are unique to Nigeria.
“Where do banks get the trillions they declare as profits every quarter, even in a struggling economy?” AY wrote on his X handle. We must contest the minor debits and charges on our accounts. A large number of these fees are exclusive to Nigeria. Why is that?
